Alert: Export Control Check Required
Thank you for requesting a TWI Industrial Members Report.
To meet UK government requirements, your request will undergo an Export Control Check. This process reviews the technical content of the report, identifies the end user, and addresses any concerns.
Please submit your request to CRP@twi.co.uk including your name, member company that you work for and your location. We will contact you regarding the request within 2 working days and any additional information required to complete the necessary checks.
We look forward to receiving your request and processing it through our export control procedure.

TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 131/1980
By S Elliott
Background
The tensile and impact properties of diffusion bonds made under various conditions of temperature, pressure and time in a medium carbon steel (EN8) have been assessed. Tensile strength properties equal to that of the normalised parent material have been achieved over a wide range of temperature/time and pressure combinations. A post bond normalising treatment is required to obtain acceptable levels of impact properties, but with such a treatment, impact strengths equivalent to those of parent material similarly thermally cycled can be achieved.
Detailed metallurgical investigations of bond cross-sections and fracture faces have led to a greater understanding of the mechanisms involved in diffusion bonding.
