Background
While all relevant published data concur with the feasibility and potential usefulness of the friction surfacing process, there has been little reference in the literature to process trends and no study of the mechanism of the technique. This work is concerned with optimising conditions when surfacing mild steel with stainless steel and considers certain aspects of the basic mechanism of metal transfer.
