Determining the Fracture Resistance of Fully Ductile Metals

The Welding Institute Procedure for the Determination of the Fracture Resistance of Fully Ductile Metals

TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 275/1985

J R Gordon

Background

This report describes a test procedure for determining the fracture resistance of fully ductile metals. The objective of the test is to produce crack growth resistance curves describing the increasing fracture toughness exhibited by fully ductile metallic materials with stable crack extension. The procedure incorporates both single and multiple specimen methods using conventional fracture toughness test specimens.
