Industrial Members Gather for Nuclear Industry Meeting

Mon, 04 March, 2024

Representatives from a number of TWI Industrial Member companies came together at our headquarters near Cambridge for a Nuclear Industry Technical Meeting.

The in-person event, which took place on Wednesday 28 February, focused on ‘Status and Advances in Asset Management for Nuclear Sites.’

The event, chaired by TWI Consultant Dr John Wintle, saw more than 30 people attend, including representatives from Sellafield, Jacobs, ONR, NDA, The Woodhouse Partnership Ltd, AtkinsRealis and Frazer-Nash.

The event offered an opportunity for TWI Industrial Members and invited guests to meet, present, share and discuss aspects of asset management of both operating and redundant nuclear facilities.

Topics covered included condition assessment and ageing, inspection planning and monitoring, the applicability and limitations of BSI PAS 55 to nuclear sites, lifetime assessment / extension / curtailment, inventory categorisation, and future planning approaches and tools. There were also discussions around maintenance and repairs, company/site-specific approaches, asset risk assessment and ranking, information/data systems and personnel structure, and the integration of asset management experiences into new reactor designs and decommissioning.

The engaging event stimulated a lot of discussion and was an opportunity for is to showcase TWI’s continued work on expoxy resins and replacements for PFAS within asset management for nuclear sites.

We would like to thank all of those who attended the event on the day and look forward to holding more events dedicated to our work with different industry sectors in the future.
