Powder Metallurgy Hot Isostatic Pressing Research Published

Wed, 06 April, 2022

TWI are pleased to announce that the paper titled, 'Development of Ni-base metal matrix composites by powder metallurgy hot isostatic pressing for space applications' has been published in the peer reviewed journal, ‘Advanced Powder Technology’.

The study investigates the influence of ceramic reinforcement type and volume fraction on the wear properties of hot isostatically pressed (HIPed) nickel-based metal matrix composites (MMCs).

The published research work was part of the European Space Agency (ESA) funded programme, 'Powder Metallurgy Based Materials for High Wear Resistance, High Hardness and High Temperature', mainly focused on near net shape powder metallurgy hot isostatic pressing (NNS PM HIP) technology for the manufacture of high-value space components.
