TWI Project Leader in Thermal Processing Technologies, Kostas Georgilas, has completed his PhD.
Funded by the Lloyds Register Foundation and TWI, Kostas carried out his PhD alongside the University of Aberdeen at the National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC). His research focused on the effect of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Additive Manufacturing on the metallurgical properties of Alloy 718. The scope of the PhD research was improving metallurgy and investigating novel thermal post-processing avenues of AM material.
Kostas received his MEng degree in Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which was then followed by an MSc in Advanced Materials Manufacture from the University of Nottingham.
Kostas is currently expanding TWI’s understanding of the heat treatment of AM materials through its Core Research Programme, under the mentorship of TWI Industrial Members in the power and aerospace sectors. Kostas is also involved in other high temperature thermal processing activities, such as brazing and diffusion bonding.
We would like to congratulate Kostas on his PhD and wish him every success at TWI.
