TWI experts heading to AeroMat Conference and Exposition

Thu, 25 April, 2019

Four TWI experts are set to present papers at the 30th Advanced Aerospace Materials and Processes (AeroMat) Conference and Exposition in Reno, Nevada, USA.

The annual event, which this year takes place between 6-8 May, 2019, at the Nugget Casino Resort takes the focus of ‘Engineering the Future – Cutting Edge Aerospace Materials & Processes.’

Allowing for industry experts to come to together and exchange technical information and knowledge about materials and processes for aerospace, this year’s conference includes over 100 technical presentations, plenary speakers and an exposition with over 50 companies exhibiting their products and services. There will also be plenty of opportunities for networking, including a welcome reception and an evening networking event at the National Automobile Museum.

While the overall conference chair is Hank Phelps of Lockheed Martin, TWI’s Aerospace Industry Group Manager, Richard Freeman will chair sessions on welding, space, and additive manufacturing.

Richard will be joined by colleagues from TWI, including Senior Project Leader, Jasmin Stein, Principal Project Leader Joao Gandra, and Joining Business Group Manager, Robert Scudamore.

Jasmin will deliver presentations on TWI’s SurFlow technology and the use of perforated composites in aerospace applications, Joao Gandra will present papers related to the recently-developed friction stir channelling process, linear friction welding for external features on spacecraft, and linear friction welding of carbon fibre composites.

Elsewhere, Robert Scudamore will talk on laser powder bed fusion and laser metal deposition from coatings to large scale structures, while Richard Freeman will also deliver papers related to developments in weld monitoring and the welding of AD730 nickel alloy.
