Furnace Processing Laboratory

The Furnace Processing Laboratory at TWI develops and supports activities related to brazing (vacuum, torch and induction), diffusion bonding and heat treatment. These processes have been employed to assist customers in developing a broad range of technical solutions, such as compact heat exchangers and process reactors, ceramic to metal assemblies, sensors and cutting tools. The laboratory has been used to develop and demonstrate new processes and procedures, re-validate existing ones and troubleshoot production problems.

More recently, the laboratory has been providing expertise and facilities to support TWI’s activities in additive manufacturing. This includes assessment of the starting powders through to heat treatment and post-processing operations such as hot isostatic pressing.
