Objectives
Investigate the susceptibility of manufacturing cracking in IN740, IN617 and Haynes 230 by TIG and EB welding techniques
Compare the weldability of IN740, IN617 and Haynes 230 using selected filler metals
Project Outline
A number of test welds will be produced in TWI by TIG and EB welding techniques for IN740, IN617 and Haynes 230 using selected filler metals. The mechanical property, chemistry and microstructure of weldment and all-weld metal will be tested in room temperature and high temperature tensile and creep testing.
Relevant Industry Sectors
Power generation, Nuclear
Technical and Economic Benefits
A better understanding of the weldability of Ni base alloys for USC power plant application.
Providing a guidance to industry for the selection of welding technique and materials, including welding consumables for USC plants
