We are launching a new joint industry project (JIP) dedicated to ‘Materials Performance in Liquid CO2 for Maritime Transport.’
As the deployment of liquid CO2 (LCO2) transport continues to advance in the maritime sector in support of large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) developments, it is important to have a foundation of robust technical evidence to ensure safe, reliable and economically optimised shipboard storage and transport. However, this technical evidence is currently lacking.
To close this gap, the ‘MARCO2’ project has been created in partnership with Lloyds Register to deliver a regulator-aligned, industry-led experimental programme addressing the critical evidence gap limiting the deployment of carbon steels in low temperature/ low pressure liquid CO2 transport containment systems.
The project will bring together experimental, service-representative testing of carbon steels in impurity-containing liquid CO2 with detailed electrochemical and post-exposure corrosion analysis.
As a joint industry project, we are inviting interested parties to join as sponsors. Sponsors will not only gain access to the project outcomes but will also be able have a say into the proposed project scope.
Launch Meeting
We are holding a workshop on 28 April 2026 to give you the opportunity to find out more about this work and allow stakeholders the chance to contribute to its direction and expected outcomes.
This workshop, which will take place from 9:30-12:00, will be offered as both an online and an in-person event, with those who are able to attend in-person also gaining the chance to have a tour of the facilities at our headquarters near Cambridge.
You can find out more about this project and also register to attend the launch workshop (either online or in-person) by following the link, below:
