Adrienne Barnes, TWI’s Technology Fellow for Ferritic Steels, will present during our first-ever Technology Fellows’ Day on 15 May, 2025.
Adrienne joined TWI following her graduation in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Imperial College, London. Her primary area of expertise is in ferritic steels, where she has provided consultancy support for our Members as well as undertaking failure investigations across a wide range of industry sectors and equipment. In addition, Adrienne has led several R&D programmes and projects, including those related to microstructure/property relationships in C-Mn and Cr-Mo steel weldments, and materials testing in aggressive environments.
Her presentation will investigate ‘High Temperature Failure Modes and Performance of Welded Power Plant Steels.’ Adrienne will provide an overview of some key aspects of the metallurgy of Cr-Mo steels and some of the main service issues associated with these alloys. This will include the creep strength of enhanced ferritic steels, developed to address the drive for improved efficiency through increased operating temperatures and pressures, as well as high temperature degradation and failure mechanisms, focussing particularly on creep, oxidation, temper embrittlement and reheat cracking.
Our in-person Technology Fellows’ Day will bring together the world-leading expertise of our Technology Fellows to focus on challenges and solutions for nuclear and fusion with crossover to other industries.
We look forward to seeing all of our registered attendees on the day.
