Matthew Doré PhD CEng FWeldI AMICE is the TWI Technology Fellow in Structural Integrity (Steels), while his particular expertise in the fatigue design of welded joints, he works closely with colleagues involved with all aspects of structural integrity.
Matthew joined the Fatigue Section at TWI in 2000, but this was not his first interaction with TWI as he was supervised during his PhD by TWI’s Professor Michael Fitzpatrick and Dr Steve Maddox. His PhD studies were completed with the Open University with a focus on, ‘An Investigation of Fatigue Crack Growth Acceleration.’
Since joining TWI, Matthew has led over 100 projects across multiple industry sectors, supporting our Industrial Members on areas including fatigue design, fracture, standards interpretation, residual stress and bridge related studies. He has also undertaken expert witness work and has over 20 published articles.
Matthew’s work has helped progress fatigue, fracture mechanics, and additive manufacturing expertise for industry, with his support and guidance of several PhD candidates to the successful completion of their courses.
His technical excellence is also on offer to industry as a main committee member of the British Standards Institute WEE/37, Chair of BS 7608, Chair of BS 7910 (fatigue), the UK National Delegate to the International Institute of Welding Commission XIII and committee member of Structural Steel and Bridges B/525/10, CB/203 and CEN. Matthew is also a Fellow of The Welding Institute, an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, a member of the Lloyds Register Technical Committee (Marine and Offshore), and Principal Reviewer for ‘Welding in the World.’
Like all of our Technology Fellows, Matthew was selected for the position by the TWI Executive Team in recognition of his knowledge and experience. He has made a significant impact through his technical excellence, expertise and knowledge transfer as well as showing a commitment to developing and coaching colleagues, passing his knowledge on to the next generation of TWI experts.
