RESURGAM Project Releases Technical Bulletin

Tue, 18 January, 2022

A technical bulletin has been released by RESURGAM (Robotic Survey, Repair & Agile Manufacture), a project which will introduce high productivity friction stir welding of steel to European shipyards.

The three year, EU funded, multi-national research initiative will develop a robotic FSW system enabling the friction stir welding of steel underwater and under oil, allowing repairs to be carried out on marine structures without needing to bring the ships or platforms ashore to a dry dock.

The fabrication and repair capabilities will be backed by the secure, digital Industry 4.0 infrastructure, already seen in widespread use in the automotive and aerospace industries.

The bulletin, which can be downloaded below, presents the progress made during RESURGAM so far, and details the technical development of the FSW tools and techniques underpinning the project.

TWI are collaborating with ACLUNAGA, NED-Project, AISTER, Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association, University of Limerick, University of Lancaster (J4IC), TU Delft, Forth Engineering, Stirweld, ESI and Element Six on this project. The project is being managed by EWF.
