On 15 September, Dr Abbasi Gandhi and Kandarp Amin hosted a successful webinar on TWI’s core research programme, evaluating joining techniques for batteries.
This project is undertaking practical trials with ultrasonic wire bonding and laser welding on representative battery materials and dummy cylindrical cells. Different electrical and mechanical characterisation techniques have been used to assess joint quality formed by the ultrasonic and laser welding to enable direct comparison.
Joining from 30 countries across the globe, attendees engaged with the panel via a live Q&A session at the end of the webinar. In addition to Dr Abbasi Gandhi and Kandarp Amin, the panel also included Andre Oliveira (Project Leader - Laser and Sheet Processes).
