The Manufacturing and Advanced Simulation of Composite Tow Shearing project, also known as MASCoTS, launched in September 2020. The ATI project focuses on the development of hardware as well as design and analysis tools for the commercialisation of the innovative technology of rapid composite tow shearing developed by iCOMAT. This patented manufacturing method utilises fibre steering for placement of carbon tapes along curved paths in order to create composite parts with minimal defects thus ensuring their increased structural performance. The manufacturing and analysis developments will be validated by the manufacturing and testing of structural panels and a wingbox demonstrator.
The MASCoTS consortium is composed of iCOMAT, MSC Software, Daptablade and TWI.
MASCoTS is an Innovate UK funded project under reference number 113298.
