UK Pilot Seminar Held for CARBOREP Project

Mon, 08 July, 2019

The UK Pilot Seminar for the CARBOREP Project took place on 17 May 2019 at Middlesbrough College’s new STEM facility. The Seminar was a great success and marked the beginning of the final stage of the project, which is due to complete in August 2019.

Co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, the CARBOREP Project sees TWI lead a European consortium, including the European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting (EWF), Asociación Española de Soldadura y Tecnologías de Unión (CESOL), and Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade (ISQ), with the ultimate aim of creating a standardised training programme for car body repair technicians in Europe.

The seminar, held in conjunction with The Welding Institute’s Association for Welding, Fabrication, Training and Education (AWFTE) group, provided an opportunity to focus on national priorities by bringing together representatives from the automotive industry, further education, training bodies, the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), and the Vehicle Body Repair Association (VBRA) to discuss and influence the international project deliverables.

By addressing key knowledge, skills and behaviours for application of joining techniques in vehicle repair, the CARBOREP project aims to address labour and industry needs across Europe. The CARBOREP aspiration is to enable an increased number of car bodies to be repaired rather than replaced - with a focus on restoration of safety and the reduction of waste from writing off cars - post accident.

CARBOREPs final project meeting took place on 18 June at ISQ in Oerias, Portugal. This meeting saw a continuation of the partners’ positive collaboration and will ensure that its objectives are achieved.
