Fri, 24 May, 2019

A number of TWI experts are set to present papers at this year’s International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OMAE2019).

The 38th OMAE event is set to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 10-13 June, 2019, and TWI will also have an exhibition stand at the conference that delegates can visit. Furthermore, Industrial Members of TWI can register for the conference at a special, reduced Member’s rate.

TWI Technology Fellow Isabel Hadley will organise a session about the recent developments in the British standard BS7910 - Guide to methods for assessing the acceptability of flaws in metallic structures.

Carol Johnston, Principal Project Leader in Fatigue Integrity Management, will present a paper on 'Review of the in-air fatigue behaviour of CRA clad and lined pipe', and Fatigue Integrity Management Consultant, Yanhui Zhang will speak on 'Fatigue performance of high strength and large diameter mooring chain in seawater.'

Other integrity management papers being presented by TWI include 'Residual stress in girth welds: Seeing measurement data differently’ by Guiyi Wu, Principal Project Leader in Asset and Fracture Management, and 'Correlation between steel microstructural characteristics and the initiation and arrest toughness determined from small-scale mechanical testing' by student Jessica Taylor.

In addition, Materials R&D manager, Dr Phillipa Moore will present on 'Influence of microstructural variation in thick section steels on the characterisation of fracture toughness using sub-size specimens,' and NSIRC PhD student Lisa Blanchard will present, on small-scale HISC testing of superduplex stainless steel welds and the effect of residual stress.

These are just some of the 900 technical papers that are expected to be presented during the conference.
