A high-level delegation from Industrial Member company China Baowu Steel Group Corporation Ltd visited TWI’s Great Abington site near Cambridge on 2 August, 2019.
The visitors included HUANG Weiliang (Director of Strategy and Sci-Tech. Department), JIANG Haomin (Vice President of Central Research Institute - R&D Centre), LI Shanqing (Chief Researcher, Central Research Institute - R&D Centre), HAN Fei (Senior Engineer, Central Research Institute - R&D Centre) and LIU Xiandong (Director of Baosteel Europe Technical Service Centre). They were met by TWI CEO Aamir Khalid, and Industrial Members Director Steve Shi along with several of TWI’s engineering experts.
Baowu steel are the world’s second-largest steel manufacturer (the largest in China) and have been Industrial Members of TWI for over ten years. With an interest in advanced material processing and joining, the visitors were firstly given an introduction to TWI before being invited to explore TWI’s various capabilities, including materials testing and characterisation. Baosteel then provided an insight into their work before a technical discussion took place.
The visit was completed with a laboratory tour, where Baosteel were able to explore many of the capabilities on offer at TWI, before final discussions concluded the productive visit.
