As a leading authority in her field of expertise, Dr Carol Johnston has made a significant impact through her technical excellence, expertise and knowledge transfer.
As is the case with all of our Technology Fellows, Carol was selected for the position by the TWI Executive Team in recognition of her knowledge and experience, and shows a commitment to developing and coaching colleagues; passing her knowledge on to the next generation of TWI experts.
Carol is the TWI Technology Fellow for Large Scale Testing, acting as the focal point for our large scale testing offering; tests that generate data to provide an understanding of the performance of components, as opposed to tests on specimens that have been extracted from a component and machined to dimensions prescribed in a test standard.
She has managed over 150 projects since 2010, using her knowledge of fatigue testing, the fatigue performance of girth welds, mechanically lined pipe and subsea connectors, as well as the structural integrity and fatigue performance of welds and bolted connections.
Carol also promotes the progression of research in engineering by assisting with various conferences and other organisations, including as a topic organiser at the ASME OMAE and Engineering Integrity Society (EIS) conferences.
