TWI Technology Fellow, Alan Taylor is a leading authority in his field of expertise, both nationally and internationally.
He has made a significant impact through his technical excellence, expertise and knowledge transfer as well as showing a commitment to developing and coaching colleagues, passing his knowledge on to the next generation of TWI experts.
Like all of our Technology Fellows, Alan was selected for the position by the TWI Executive Team in recognition of his knowledge and experience.
As our Technology Fellow in Coatings Technologies, his particular expertise is in liquid coating systems and surface pre-treatments, but he works closely with colleagues involved in all aspects of surface engineering and adhesive bonding, providing guidance and support to our Industrial Members and colleagues alike on issues such surface roughness, surface chemistry, surface contamination, silane coupling agents, coating assessment methodologies, coating specification and qualification.
He has led hundreds of projects across every industry sector during his time at TWI as well as having nine separate patents and applications in nine families relating to specific industrial applications that utilise advanced materials.
Alan has also mentored many early/mid-career researchers, guiding 12 PhD candidates and two MSc students to successful completion of their courses.
Respected across industry, Alan has also been heavily involved in a number of industry boards and committees, as well as being a regular speaker at industry events.
