TWI Certification Ltd (TWI CL) awarded London Underground Railway Engineering Workshop Certification for Welding of Railway Vehicles and Components (CWRVC) in accordance with EN 15085 and the Welding Fabricator Certification Scheme (WFCS) in accordance with ISO 3834.

A presentation of the certificates took place on 15th February 2021 and officially recognises London Underground’s compliance with internationally recognised standards for welding operations in the railway industry as well as the quality requirements for fusion welding.

Emma Freckingham, MInstLM, AWeldI, Head of Company Certification at TWI Certification Ltd, presented the award to Richard Davey, IEng, MWeldI, Responsible Welding Coordinator and Sam Barlow, Deputy Responsible Welding Coordinator, of London Underground outside TWI’s headquarters in Great Abington, Cambridge.

Speaking on the award, Emma Freckingham said, “Achieving CWRVC/EN 15085 and WFCS/ISO 3834 certification is evidence of Richard, Sam and their colleagues at London Underground Workshops' commitment to providing quality assurance of their products and services, and their dedication in demonstrating the competency requirements of the schemes and standards.”

She added, “The EN 15085 and ISO 3834 standards exemplify a clear, high profile independent verification of compliance.”

London Underground’s Richard Davey also spoke on the award, saying, “Being awarded this certification is a highlight of an exciting period for London Underground Workshops. It is evidence of our enhanced capabilities and there has already been a marked improvement in both the support we can provide to the London Underground network and the quality of the work completed. We look forward to continuing to develop our staff and processes.”

These certifications show that London Underground takes quality requirements seriously and are also a reflection of their vision to deliver safe working behaviours and efficient and cost effective production processes of the highest possible quality.

London Underground have been working hard over the past year to achieve a high quality management system, including a successful preliminary evaluation and initial assessment, all conducted in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

We would like to congratulate London Underground on their achievement.
