TWI supports China's development of high speed trains

Thu, 05 September, 2019

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) technology is a solid state welding process invented by TWI Ltd. This technology offers higher weld strength than fusion processes, critical in many applications. One such application is the fabrication of aluminium railcars enabling high productivity with outstanding quality.

CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC) is the world's largest supplier of rail transit equipment, employing over 180,000 employees. In 2019, staff from CRRC Zhuzhou and CRRC Tangshan attended TWI’s technical training courses, following on from similar courses given to staff from two other subsidiaries; CRRC Changchun and CRRC Qingdao.

Hosted by Principal Project Leader, Xingguo (Sam) Wei, the Friction Stir Welding training courses were delivered at our technology centre in South Yorkshire, with CRRC also benefiting from visits to TWI’s technology centre in Wales and Cambridge HQ.

TWI continues to support CRRC in maintaining their international leading role in the use of FSW in their products through training, certification and technology advances.
