TWI is leading a new programme funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), in partnership with Airbus UK and ArianeGroup.
The main objective of the project is to lower the cost of manufacturing structures for spacecraft and launch vehicles.
One of the processes being developed is for the connection of tabs on satellite fuel tanks by linear friction welding (LFW).
TWI has recently produced the first demonstrator proving the feasibility of this approach.
