State-of-the-Art Review of the Assessment Qualification and use of Mechanically Lined Pipes (MLP)

State-of-the-Art Review of the Assessment Qualification and use of Mechanically Lined Pipes (MLP)

Status: Completed
Date Announced: January, 2020
Project reference: JIP33529 (Ex PROP305017)

Previously, information on how to both manufacture and qualify mechanically lined pipes (MLP) offered an incomplete solution in regards to the answer. Though a few specifications were present, a lack of universal adoption of this method hindered its performance. However, a review of to-date methods of the time as well as an investigation into emerging practices successfully aided the confirmation of state-of-the-art manufacture and use of MLP, which differed greatly from conventional cladded or overlaid products. This review has allowed for the industry to identify the gaps in existing guidance and focus on the active area, achieving the ultimate goal of development of a comprehensive and specific set of guidelines for the assessment, qualification and use of MLP.

Within this project, the use of existing material specifications, standards and database searches gathered information, as well as (when appropriate) approaching relevant organisations for information which was not previously in the public domain.

This enabled the state-of-the-art to be captured, further allowing for the gap analysis to be refined and updated with the newest developments regarding aspects to be considered and fulfillable requirements.
