TWI specialist in the physics of welding and welding in harsh environments, Dr. Andrés Moreno, has been invited to deliver a keynote address at XLVIII CONSOLDA & IV CBMAdi 2026 - Latin America’s premier conference on welding and additive manufacturing.
The event will take place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, from 23 to 26 November 2026. Dr. Moreno’s keynote presentation, titled, ‘Underwater Wet Welding: Opportunities and Challenges,’ will examine the physics of the electric arc, metallurgical phenomena, and the integration of emerging technologies - such as computer vision, real-time monitoring, and artificial intelligence - into specialised joining processes. Recognised as a 2025 IIW Young Professional, Dr. Moreno brings extensive international expertise across Colombia, Brazil, Germany, Poland, the USA, and the UK.
Global Leadership and Industry Engagement
Beyond his R&D and project management roles at TWI in Cambridge, Dr. Moreno serves as an active member of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) Young Professionals’ Steering Committee. In this capacity, along with his fellow committee members, he actively fosters engagement within the international welding community, contributing to major initiatives such as co-organising the upcoming 4th online Young Welding Professionals International Conference (YPIC 2027) scheduled for 18–19 February 2027. To further bridge technical excellence with personal development, Dr. Moreno also developed WeldTalk – The International Institute of Welding Vodcast, a dedicated outreach initiative launched in October 2026 to highlight the human stories, values, and core technical topics - including AI and the future of welding science – that are shaping the global community.
Strengthening Industrial Connections in South America
Following the conference, Dr. Moreno will conduct targeted liaison visits to key TWI Industrial Members across Brazil and Colombia during late November and early December. These meetings will provide an opportunity for regional partners to engage directly in high-level technical discussions and explore collaborative research avenues.
XLVIII CONSOLDA & IV CBMAdi 2026 brings together international leaders from scientific and industrial sectors. TWI congratulates Dr. Moreno on this key recognition and looks forward to supporting its Members across Latin America.
