TWI Technology Fellow and PFAS subject matter expert Dr Alan Taylor is due to present at AMI Plastics’ ‘PFAS Workshop Europe,’ which is taking place 2-3 June. 2025 in Brussels.
The event will focus on the effects of a ban on Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in the plastics industry. Dr Taylor has been monitoring this situation around a potential ban on PFAS products for over 18 months, providing regular updates on this changing landscape, including a webinar, two workshops and several conference presentations.
Despite the many benefits provided by the use of PFAS products over many decades, there have been growing concerns about the environmental impact of these substances. The potential health hazards associated with some of these substances has led to them being banned under the Stockholm convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. Recent estimates suggest global clean-up costs to remove PFAS pollution could reach as much as £1.6 trillion over the next 20 years.
A ban on PFAS products will have knock-on effects for a range of industry sectors, including plastics. Those interested in attending the AMI Plastics event can find out more and register to attend, here:

Join TWI’s PFAS Project
TWI is launching a Joint Industry Project on the subject of PFAS, designed to help sponsors to mitigate your business risk.
This project will provide a clear and accessible overview of this complex topic along with a review of the market and guidelines for identifying alternative materials and technologies specifically for coatings, surface treatments and seals.
