Two teams from TWI entered the 19th Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival on the River Cam at Fen Ditton on Saturday, 13 September, 2025.
The two boats, ‘The Winner Is!’ and ‘Speed Boaty,’ were supported by staff from TWI and watched by hundreds of spectators on the day.
As well as the dragon boat racing itself, the day included a range of activities, including traditional Chinese dancing and drumming. Competitors and spectators were also able to enjoy a range of food and drink stalls.

As ever, the races took place along a 200 metre stretch of river with up to 10 people paddling the 30-foot boats as a drummer beat out the time for each boat.
This year’s event saw TWI win two trophies, with ‘The Winner Is!’ being named as the fastest mixed crew with a minimum of 5 female rowers and only just missing out on the final after coming second in their semi-final against an all-male crew.
‘Speed Boaty,’ meanwhile, took second place overall after making it through to the final; missing out to the eventual winners by just 0.27 seconds.

As usual, the event provided an entertaining afternoon for all as well as raising funds for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust and the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital.
We would like to thank everyone who took part or turned up to support on the day – as well as helping to raise money to support cancer research – and we look forward to doing it all again next year!
