We were delighted to be able to welcome student, Siddha Saina to TWI Wales for a week of work experience following the completion of his GCSEs.
‘Sid,’ who has a strong interest in physics and engineering, spent the week of 14-18 July, 2025 at our facility in Port Talbot, Wales, where he was keen to get stuck into learning the science behind some of our NDT techniques.
We started him out with the basics, but quickly found his keen intellect and interest were up to the challenge of some more involved project work. As a result, Sid ended up developing some simulations for phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) techniques, sourced some equipment for a project, and gained knowledge of our NDT software function.
Our work across industry means that we are aware of the skills gap that has emerged across many engineering applications, so it is always a pleasure to be able to help develop skills and interest in the next generation of industry experts.
We have a track record of welcoming young people to join us for work experience at our facilities, and TWI Wales will be seeking to engage with local schools around Neath-Port Talbot and South Wales to ensure work experience placements return as a regular part of our operation, following the success of Sid’s placement.
We would like to thank Sid for keeping us on our toes during the week with his keen questioning, and wish him all the best with his future career choices.
