We are pleased to announce that Jonathan Martin has been made a TWI Technology Fellow. Jonathan’s area of expertise covers Friction Stir Welding (FSW) and Processing, in light of over 20 years’ experience in FSW at TWI.
Jonathan joined TWI in 2005, having spent some time working in machine tool manufacture. He was brought on to manage the FSW team at the TWI Technology Centre Yorkshire, before becoming the combined manager of friction welding and processing at our sites in Rotherham and Cambridge.
Following this, Jonathan moved to a consultancy role, focusing on the delivery of FSW projects. He has also been the driving force behind the biennial International Friction Stir Welding Symposium since 2008 and is a Fellow of the Welding Institute. He has also been a member of a number of International Institute of Welding (IIW) Commission III working groups to standardise FSW over the years.
Jonathan’s appointment as a TWI Technology Fellow recognises his status as a respected world-leading expert in his field, having made significant contributions to friction stir welding over the years.
Speaking on his appointment, Jonathan said, “I’m honoured to receive this recognition and truly grateful to be part of such a great place to work, surrounded by inspiring colleagues. I look forward to the exciting opportunities and challenges ahead, and to continuing to contribute to the success of our team.”
We would like to congratulate Jonathan on his appointment to Technology Fellow status.
