We would like to thank everybody who attended the first-ever TWI Technology Fellows’ Day on 15 May 2025 at our headquarters near Cambridge, UK.
Over 100 key names from the nuclear, fusion and other associated industries attended the in-person event to hear a range of presentations from our world-leading experts.
With a focus on challenges and solutions for the nuclear and fusion industries - with crossover to other sectors – the event garnered a great deal of positive feedback from the attendees, who also had plenty of opportunities to network with TWI staff and each other.
This was the first time we have brought the technical excellence of our Technology Fellows together for a single event, each of whom has made a genuine difference to industry through their knowledge and leadership.
Topics covered on the day included:
- The role of postulated weld flaws in safety cases
- Defect assessment in high-integrity pressure equipment: from qualitative to quantitative
- Weld qualification
- Inspection qualification
- Electron beam welding and additive manufacture
- High temperature failure modes and performance of welded power plant steels
- Supply chain challenges and increasing business risks: The changing landscape for advanced materials using PFAS as a case study
- Structural integrity: The importance of welding and inspection in multi-legged safety cases
- Welding of plastic pipes for water circulation in nuclear plants
Although the breadth of knowledge on display covered the latest developments in technology, techniques, materials and science aligned to the needs of the nuclear and fusion industries, we plan to hold more Technology Fellows’ events in future with a focus on other industries and areas of interest.
