TWI Industrial Member Celebrates at Institute Branch Dinner

Thu, 14 December, 2023

There was another reason for TWI Industrial Member company, Graham Engineering to celebrate at The Welding Institute’s North Western Branch Dinner on 24 November 2023.

The event saw TWI’s Marketing Group Manager present the, ‘AILU Young Laser Welder of the Year Award 2023’ to Graham Engineering’s Adam Birtwell.

This is not a first award for the company – or for Adam – this year.

Back in March, Adam received AILU’s ‘Rising Star’ award, which recognises people in the early stages of their careers for a significant piece of work that has led to potential or real economic gain for their organisation. Adam’s award recognised his work to develop and optimise robotic laser welding processes in titanium and duplex steel.

Elsewhere in 2023, Lee Schofield from Graham Engineering’s development team accepted the ‘Apprentice Employer of the Year’ award, and Graham Engineering’s Tegan Hamilton was named as ‘Pre-Advanced (Welding) Full Time Learner of the Year,’ while also achieving the highest individual mark in her exams.

The North Western Branch Dinner also provided the opportunity to congratulate a number of other apprentice winners, including Mackenzie Hudson of Central Sheet Metal, Max Fyles and Harry Easton who are both working towards their level three fabrication and welding, and Lucas Torbica of Graham Engineering.

We would like to congratulate Graham Engineering for their successes this year and commend their dedication to supporting apprenticeships and developing a new generation of engineers. We would also like to thank The North Western Branch Chair, Mr Mark R Wolstenholme as well as the Social Secretary and Branch Management Committee Rep, Mr Ian Fraser, and the rest of the Branch Committee for their dedication and commitment this year, ending with a fabulous annual dinner.
