TWI Geothermal Work Highlighted in Heat Exchanger World

Wed, 26 April, 2023

The GEOHEX project, of which TWI is a part, has been featured in the latest issue of Heat Exchanger World magazine.

The project has been highlighted in the ‘community update’ section of the publication, which you can read online.

The update article provides details of a recent webinar held by the project consortium that offered details of the work being done for ‘Novel Coatings for Geothermal Heat Exchangers.’

The project team have been developing coatings to protect critical geothermal components against corrosion and scaling via the use of metal alloy compositions that form a stable amorphous structure.

Coating trials are developing the coatings from small coupons on a laboratory scale through to heat exchanger test rigs and on to small yet representative heat exchanger tests.

The coatings offer improved anti-scaling and anti-corrosion properties in comparison to current solutions as well as improved heat transfer performance to deliver greater efficiencies and lower costs.

You can see the article in Heat Exchanger World here, and watch a full recording of the webinar, below:

The GEOHEX project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 851917
