TWI Expert to Present on Military Materials Innovations

Mon, 30 October, 2023

TWI Senior Project Leader, Kandarp Amin will be presenting information on ceramic-to-metal joining at an upcoming Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining event.

The event, ‘A Joint Effort: Integrating Advanced Materials into Military Platforms,’ is taking place on 9 November 2023, with places available in-person at their London offices or to join online.

The Dstl Materials for Strategic Advantage Programme, working with their Australian counterparts in DST Group, and supported by the Defence and Security Accelerator have launched their ‘Joint Effort initiative to help develop innovative joining technologies to help expedite the insertion of advanced materials into military platforms.

Increased functionality, improved survivability and enhanced maintainability as well as reduced costs have all made advanced materials attractive for military use, whether on land, at sea or in the air.

A funding competition was devised to develop novel approaches to allow for the use of new material combinations and integrate advanced materials into military applications.

Bringing together industry and academia, the latest phase of the programme addresses the themes of the integration of composites, adhesives for structural joining, high temperature structures, and improving armour materials.

Kandarp will deliver, ‘An alternative approach to ceramic to metal joining’ at the event, where he will be joined by fellow experts from DSSG, Dstl, Zentraxa, Foresight Innovations, and Nottingham and Trent University.
