TWI Expert Invited to Present at ASTM ICAM2023

Wed, 26 July, 2023

TWI technology consultant, Dr Raja Khan CEng FWeldI, FIMMM has been invited to speak at the upcoming ASTM International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing 2023 (ASTM ICAM2023).

The event is taking place between 30 October and 3 November 2023 in Washington DC and Raja will be presenting on the ‘Effect of Powder Conditioning and Post-Thermal Treatments on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of L-PBF Alloy 718.

The talk, which relates to the UKRI-funded 'Scalable AM Rule Creation and Dissemination (SAMRCD)' project, will investigate the challenge of achieving consistent and reliable manufactured parts through additive manufacturing.

Raja will particularly focus on the impact of powder conditioning and post-thermal treatments on the microstructural and mechanical properties of laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) Alloy 718 material.

The aim of this work is to gain an understanding of the influence of different powder storage conditions on microstructures and mechanical properties, including how post-thermal treatments can mitigate against detrimental effects on the quality of produced parts.

This will further aid the integration of additive manufacturing into advanced manufacturing of high value industrial parts, especially in sectors such as aerospace, space, and automotive, where high precision, structural integrity, functionality and light-weighting are the key factors.

About ASTM ICAM2023

ASTM ICAM 2023 is due to take place at the Hyatt Regency – Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C., USA and is hosted by the ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) and supported by over a dozen ASTM technical committees.

The 2023 event will be the eighth annual event and includes 26 different symposia covering a range of topics and key areas in both additive and advanced manufacturing.

Bringing together experts from industry, academia, government and regulatory agencies, national labs, and more, this event seeks to assist in an exchange of information on the latest developments in the field of advanced manufacturing, with an emphasis on the transition of research to application.

You can find out more and register to attend this event, here.
