Professional Q+A: Aaron Kirkbride

With 2023 marking 100 years of The Welding Institute, we have been speaking with our Professional Members to find out about their careers, their membership of The Welding Institute, and how it has helped them progress in their roles.

This week, we hear from Aaron Kirkbride, BEng MSc IWE/EWE CEng, CQP, MWeldI, MCQI, a 27-year-old welding engineer from Washington in the North East of England.

Having studied for his BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering at Northumbria University, Newcastle, followed by an MSc in Welding Engineering at Cranfield University, Bedfordshire, Aaron now works for Rolls Royce Submarines Ltd in Derby where his responsibilities include the qualification of welding procedures, providing technical support to production, and undertaking QA/QC activities.

Aaron gave us an insight into his career to date, including how support from fellow Members of The Welding Institute helped him progress his career and become professionally registered.

He has also been active with his local branch, serving as a committee member at a number of different branches as well as assisting the Younger Members’ committee, taking the role of Secretary for the South-West branch and mentoring others.

Speaking on his past and future career plans, Aaron offers advice to others following in his footsteps and reveals how his Professional Membership has helped guide him through hi career so far.
