TWI was pleased to welcome visitors from MBDA Systems to our headquarters near Cambridge on 23 November 2021.
MBDA are the only integrated defence company providing missiles and missile systems for each branch of the armed forces (air, sea and land). Employing over 12,000 people across France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, and with offices in the United States, this multi-national joint venture brings together three European leaders in aerospace and defence (Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo).
MBDA’s Head of Future Concepts and his wider engineering team were hosted by TWI’s Defence Manager, James Smith, and Senior Administrator, Lucie Paley, during the visit.
MBDA were able to gain a greater understanding of TWI’s capabilities and how we can assist them in their work. This included a series of presentations from TWI experts on topics including Brazing, Additive Manufacturing, Non-Destructive Testing, Composites and Composite Joining and Asset Integrity Management.
In addition to the presentations, the MBDA delegation were taken on a full tour of our Cambridge facilities.
Speaking on the visit, James Smith said, “It was a pleasure to welcome MBDA to TWI and to let them see the full range of expertise and assistance that we can offer across a range of capabilities.”
David Hayes of MBDA said,” It was a fantastic day for 25 colleagues from Mechanical Engineering in MBDA, including some excellent presentations on novel technologies, covering everything from brazing to induction welding of composites. The day concluded with possibly the best-organised site tour we have been on where, in a short 2-hour slot, we were able to see many of TWI’s lab capabilities. A thoroughly enjoyable day, giving us lots of new information to consider for our applications. Thanks to James, Lucie and the whole TWI team.”
