TWI Technician named as Engineering Apprentice of the Year

Thu, 23 January, 2020

TWI’s Alex Russell has been named as Cambridge Regional College’s ‘Engineering Apprentice of the Year.’

Alex recently completed his Level 4 NVQ in engineering manufacture alongside a Level 5 HND in mechanical engineering, studying while working at TWI.

His career progress during his studies has also seen him rise from apprentice level to technician and senior technician on to being a team leader in thermal processing technologies.

Alex explained how his studies have assisted him in his day-today work at TWI, whether with CAD design work or understanding and implementing Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) within manufacture.

Having attended an awards night at Cambridge Regional College (CRC), Alex is now embarking on the next part of his studies with West Suffolk College, hoping to complete his BEng (degree level) qualification over the course of the next two years.

Speaking on his journey, Alex noted that his studies have had a direct impact on progressing his career with TWI.

We would like to congratulate Alex on his achievement and wish him all the best for the next part of his studies.
