TWI to hold free Friction Stir Welding seminar in Malaysia

Thu, 20 June, 2019

TWI is to hold a friction stir welding (FSW) seminar in Malaysia on 25 July, 2019.

The seminar will be led by TWI’s Friction and Forge Processes team manager, Steve Dodds, and will also include input from Malaysian FSW user MFE Formwork Technology Sdn Bhd's Pat Gorham who will present an industrial case study.

Aimed at design engineers, production engineers, product managers, and those seeking advance manufacturing solutions, this free event will provide attendees with an understanding of how FSW works, the applications for the process, which materials it can be used with, and the design methods used to maximise compatibility, quality and productivity.

Friction stir welding is a solid state process invented at TWI, which avoids many of the problems associated with fusion welding. Since the materials are not melted, FSW does not suffer with potential complications such as shrinkage, solidification cracking and porosity.

FSW is already in use across a wide range of industries and with a variety of materials including aluminium, copper, lead, steel and even titanium.

The free seminar will include lunch and refreshments as well as plenty of opportunities for networking and the chance to have a one-to-one meeting with TWI's leading FSW experts.
