TWI is proud to have participated in the 15th Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival on the River Cam.
The annual event, which took place at Fen Ditton, saw around 40 teams compete over a 200 metre race course and watched by several hundred spectators.
Along with the actual racing the event offers plenty of bankside entertainment including food stalls and family-friendly activities throughout the day.
TWI entered three teams of up to ten competitors, each paddling a 30 foot boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm maintaining a straight course along the river.
While there were prizes to be won by the teams across the day, the real focus behind the event is to raise funds for the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, who are dedicated to making a difference to patients at the local Addenbrooke’s and Rosie hospitals. Money raised during the day go towards providing the highest quality of care to patients while also funding cutting edge technology, additional specialist services, vital research and extra comforts for patients above and beyond that provided by NHS funding alone.
TWI’s crews participated in at least three races each as they looked to make their way through the heats, with one of our teams ending up in a commendable third place overall.
You can see the full list of results from the races here, while TWI will be preparing teams for next year’s event, which will take place on Saturday 12th September 2020!
