Tue, 08 October, 2019

Dr Chris Worrall, a consultant in TWI’s Adhesives, Composites and Sealants section, was invited to deliver a keynote and workshop lecture at the 3rd annual Global Summit and Expo on Nanotechnology, Nanomedicine and Materials Science, which was held in Barcelona, Spain, from September 18 to 20, 2019.

The Keynote Workshop lecture addressed a Core Research Programme project titled “Perforated composites: Manufacturing, Modelling and Industrial Applications.” The presentation generated a lot of interest from the diverse audience, who could appreciate the potential benefits of perforating composites without damaging the reinforcing fibres.

Dr Worrall also represented TWI at the conference as a Scientific Committee Member and was invited to present a Certificate of Recognition to Professor Jeremiah Rushchitscky from the S.P. Timoshenko Institute of Mechanics (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Professor of Mathematics at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv National Technical University.

The overall conference mission was to create a common platform for the researchers and provide an opportunity for them to interact, with scientific networking helping the betterment of science by exchanging ideas in a broad field. The diverse subject matter, including nanomaterials, nanomedicine and materials science, enabled a forum for exchange of new ideas and approaches to address common challenges.

The TWI project was funded by TWI Members through the Core Research Programme and received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 723360. Support was also provided by EPSRC, NSIRC and the University of Surrey.
