GRP Piping Consultation for ISO 14692 to be held at TWI

TWI is to hold a special 2-day consultation event related to the ISO 14692 standard for the use of glass reinforced plastics (GRP) piping in the petroleum and natural gas industries.

This event is aimed at bringing together a wide range of stakeholders in the manufacture, specification/procurement, installation and operation of GRP piping. The discussions will focus on resolutions for quality shortfalls in jointing and the associated competence requirements for jointing operators and supervisors.

The event will begin on 30 October with a facilitated group discussion of the requirements and changes sought by industry, to inform the standards activity and to prepare for the second round of meetings to take place the next day.

The meeting on the 30th October aims to obtain input for revision of- / amendments to ISO 14692 parts 1 through 4.

The agenda of the meeting on the 31st October will see two separate discussions relating to ISO 14692-4, which concerns the fabrication, installation and operation of the composite pipelines.

The morning session on 31st October will involve discussions around two broad topics:

  1. a) The creation of an independent and impartial certification scheme using ISO 14692-4 as a guideline.
  2. b) The relative merits of different options for competence assessment and competence assurance will be discussed as well as identifying possible routes to solution in line with the needs of industry’

The afternoon session on the 31st October will involve a second separate discussion on the training challenges, and explore the delivery methods for the knowledge and skills required by GRP piping personnel, to satisfy ISO 14692-4 and support the individuals and their employers.
