Fundamentals of Selective Laser Melting Training Course

Designed by TWI experts in the additive manufacturing (AM) field, the Fundamentals of Selective Laser Melting (SLM) training course is now available to book.

The three-day course takes place at TWI’s Yorkshire facility in Rotherham on 11, 12 and 13 June 2019 and aims to equip attendees with an understanding and appreciation of the SLM process.

Perfect for candidates who want to expand on a basic understanding of 3D printing and AM with no industry bias, topics covered include:

  • Overview and comparison of various AM processes
  • Metal powders used in AM
  • Powder handling and management
  • Benefits of SLM
  • SLM process description
  • SLM build design and optimisation
  • Post processing operations
  • Practical risk assessment exercise and demonstration of TWI’s SLM machines
  • Inspection and NDT of SLM builds
  • Certification and validation to AM standards

This course was developed as part of the Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI), a programme designed to improve the global competitiveness of UK advanced manufacturing supply chains, and has so far reached over 65 attendees from 30 different companies, including HiETA Technologies, JC Bamford, Costain plc, Reaction Engines, Liberty Steel, Siemens Industrial, Babcock International and more.
