Decommissioning activities call upon many elements of TWI support and services. This can include product development, such as nuclear encapsulation/waste containment (process selection for manufacture). It can also include dismantling components and structures – which  has been demonstrated with the application of laser cutting technology.

TWI has led the development of laser systems for nuclear decommissioning.

TWI continues to support offshore decommissioning for the oil and gas industry and planning the controlled demolition of disused offshore platforms – be it in relating to engineered toppling operations, or more recently, application of lasers for underwater cutting: TWI process engineers can give guidance on the assessing feasibility, and developing bespoke systems for your particular application in this area.
