The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), established to help implement parts of certain EU programmes, has been playing a vital role in supporting the EU Green Deal.
Recently, as part of its role to ensure efficient and effective implementation of its delegated programmes, CINEA hosted a Geothermal Clustering Event, inviting project representatives participating in the various H2020 and Horizon Europe initiatives that support the exploitation and sustainability of geothermal energy. This workshop was set up as a side event during the European Geothermal Congress 2022 (EGC2022) in Berlin and provided a synergistic platform for geothermal enthusiasts to share their challenges and learning from these research projects.
Representatives from TWI, Dr. Jon Blackburn, Damien Kirkpatrick and Dr. Namrata Kale presented updates on the TWI led collaborative projects GEOPRO, GEOHEX, Geo-Drill, and GeoSmart.
These projects are representative of TWI’s core expertise in materials testing and surface engineering and are aimed at providing innovative solutions to spectrum of challenges in geothermal in collaboration with organizations across UK and Europe.
The event also included presentations from other geothermal energy projects including CRM-geothermal, CROWDTHERMAL, EASYGO-ITN, GECO, GEO4CIVHIC, GEOTHERM-FOR A, OPTIDRILL, GEOTHERMICA, ORCHYD and REFLECT.
