TWI’s Mike Troughton to Speak at Engineering Solutions Live

Fri, 11 March, 2022

TWI Technology Fellow, Mike Troughton is due to present at Engineering Solutions Live, which is taking place at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon, UK on 24 March 2022.

Mike will present on ‘Welding and Thermal Joining Techniques for Plastics’ at the event, which is a one-stop shop for new contacts and thought leadership in the engineering sector.

There are currently 16 different plastic welding techniques, with the choice of which one to use being determined by factors including material type, wall thickness, component size and complexity, and the required rate of production.

Mike’s presentation will describe each welding technique, together with its advantages and disadvantages to provide an understanding of the different methods and associated constraints for welding plastics.

Mike joined TWI in 1993 after gaining a PhD in Polymer Physics and working in the plastics industry for seven years. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of The Welding Institute as well as chair of the BSI committee for plastics welding, the European Welding Federation working group on plastics welders and the Welding Institute Technical Group on polymers. He is also the UK delegate on various CEN, ISO, AWS and ASME standards committees, and is the author of the Handbook of Plastics Joining – A Practical Guide.
