Thermochemical Processes for Plastic Recycling and Reuse

Thu, 26 May, 2022

Two TWI experts spoke during our webinar dedicated to ‘Plastics Waste Valorisation and Recycling via Thermochemical Processes’ on 25 April 2022.

During the event, polymer science and engineering project leader, Ana Antelava and technology polymer and composite technologies senior project leader, George V. Theodosopoulos MSc, PhD shared their expertise on plastic recycling techniques and TWI’s services and expertise in this area.

Our experts also discussed the plastic waste valorisation via thermochemical processes such as thermal pyrolysis, catalytic pyrolysis and gasification, before closing the webinar, which you can see below, with time for questions and discussion.

Plastics have become an integral part of our daily lives due to their versatility, playing an essential role in industrial sectors such as automotive, aerospace, energy, medical, construction, and finding use in a variety of engineering applications.

However, our increased dependence on plastic materials and components as well as inappropriate disposal routes has led to plastic accumulation and pollution. Efficient and sustainable plastic waste treatment is crucial to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, reduce plastic pollution, enhance closed-loop material recycling, and transition towards a circular economy model through material upcycling or circular reuse.

You can see the webinar, which aligns with our plastics recycling and sustainability theme, below:
