A newly installed water jet cutter is now ready for use by our Industrial Members at TWI Middlesbrough.
The new OMAX 55100 JetMachining Centre is a clean and quiet ‘green’ system with a low electrical consumption, offering high speed precision machining capable of handling everything from prototyping to full-scale manufacturing.
Able to quickly and efficiently cut materials up to 4’ x 8’, the OMAX 55100 uses DFX or CAD drawings to create cutting paths and deliver the fastest cutting speeds of any abrasive jet in the industry.
The new machine allows us to work on a wide range of materials and thicknesses, including composites, glass, metals and plastics without creating heat-affected zones or imparting mechanical stresses.
It has already been used for slice thick section electron beam welds of 240mm deep by 400mm long, although it is capable of cutting greater lengths at similar thicknesses.
In addition to these capabilities, the OMAX 55100 at TWI includes an additional rotary axis so that we can also cut pipes on request.
