New MAREWIND Project Video Released

Wed, 06 July, 2022

A new video has been released explaining the scope, objectives and impact of the MAREWIND project.

TWI is one of 16 organisations from seven nations working on the collaborative, European Union Horizon 2020-funded project, which is developing solutions to solve coatings, materials and multi-material architectural performance challenges for large offshore wind power assets.

The solutions developed by MAREWIND will pave the way for the next generation of offshore wind assets and facilities, solving the business, economic, technological and societal challenges faced by the industry, while also strengthening Europe’s role as a leader in global offshore wind.

One of the main challenges faced by offshore energy producers is how to increase the functional lifetime of structural components that are subjected to numerous damage mechanisms. As these damage mechanisms affect the materials and coatings of offshore structures, corrosion and fatigue can further reduce the lifetime of offshore structures where environmental factors including abrasion, erosion, UV-radiation and wetness have already caused severe damage.

MAREWIND is addressing these issues through the development of durable materials and recyclable solutions for the offshore wind industry, which will extend the service life of assets.

You can find out more on the MAREWIND project website as well as by watching the short video, below:

The MAREWIND project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 952960
