GeoSmart Targets Future Engineers

Thu, 17 November, 2022

Ural Halaçoğlu, a geothermal expert working as R&D Manager for GeoSmart partner Zorlu Enerji and its subsidiaries, presented information about GeoSmart innovations at a lecture that was part of an elective course, 'Utilization of Geothermal Energy, which targeted the mechanical engineering students of Middle East Technical University (METU).

Ural's talk, 'Developments in Geothermal Industry Leading Way to R&D Studies,' was aimed at highlighting the importance of geothermal energy amidst growing global concerns over increasing energy prices.

During his lecture, Ural spoke upon geothermal development in the world, with a specific focus on Turkey, which now has over 100 times more installed capacity compared to what was available just 15 years ago.

Ural also stressed how the exploitation of geothermal energy to its fullest potential requires much research and innovation, which can be realised through projects like GeoSmart.

The consortium would also like to thank Prof. Derek Baker, METU for organising this event.

The GeoSmart project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme grant agreement 818576
