Following the introduction of tools suitable for friction stir welding 6mm thick steel, Element Six have continued their tool development programme, responding to market demand for a greater thickness capability with the production of a tool capable of making welds in 12mm thick carbon steels at a single pass.
This new tool family has been tested at TWI and shown to be capable of producing consistent welds whose tensile strength overmatches that of the parent metal, and which is also capable of making welds underwater.
These recent developments were presented at our webinars on 22nd and 24th February, with both sessions featuring an interactive Q&A discussion.
